This document contains five chapters. Each chapter contains practical exercises that bring the theory to everyday practice.
Chapter 1: The LDIF format forms the back-end on which all directory services rely. Therefore, we start with an introduction to this data format. We also locate and examine the most important server configuration files and directories.
Chapter 2: A more elaborate discussion of user and group topics, including the configuration of a password policy.
Chapter 3: A more in-depth discussion of directory service queries.
Chapter 4: How restrictions are applied to limit access to the server data.
Chapter 5: Discussion of the log files and how to use these and other tools to monitor server activity.
Furthermore, there are two appendices:
Appendix A: Overview of the UNIX commands to start and stop the server.
Appendix B: list of on-line resources.
